As there appears to have been some misunderstanding in some circles, below is link a the letter from the Advisory Council on the Welfare Issues of Dog Breeding. This clearly states that ‘Patron’ status can be gained by the payment of £5,000 per annum.
This is currently being considered by the membership of the Canine Alliance and we continue to seek members’ views on this important issue.

Update – May 22nd, 2013:
At the Steering Group Meeting today, the invitation from the DAC to the CA to become a patron was discussed in further depth. Members have expressed their views and reasoning and we thank you for participating and for your trust.
Having made further enquiries, it appears that the only advantage when becoming a patron (at a not insignificant cost of £5000 per annum) is the privileged (but not exclusive) time update on the DAC’s work and proposals. Not being a patron will not affect the CA from representing our members by trying to influence the DAC’s policy proposals when necessary.
On these grounds, whilst still maintaining the intent of contributing to the discussions of the DAC at every opportunity, the Steering Group advise against patronage as we believe that there are more appropriate uses for members’ funds.
